The Measure of a Man, the new film from Stephane Brize, has been acquired by Kino Lorber for U.S. and Canada distribution. The French film won acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival, picking up Best Actor for Vincent Lindon’s performance.

The Measure of a Man stars Lindon as a working-class man who has just lost his job. He gets a new job as a supermarket security guard and is then dealt with a moral dilemma. Lindon’s supporting cast includes mostly non-professional actors who essentially play themselves on the screen.

Lindon and Brize worked together on Mademoiselle Chambon, which was also released in the U.S. by Kino Lorber. It is Brize’s sixth film and was written by Brice and Olivier Gorce.

The distributor plans on releasing The Measure of a Man this fall and will release the film on home video next year. It will also be screened at North American festivals in the fall.

“Cannes brought us the gift to work again with Stephane Brizé and Vincent Lindon, after our great success with their Mademoiselle Chambon,” Kino Lorber CEO Richard Lorber said in a statement. “With The Measure of a Man’s hugely deserved Best Actor honor, we’re keen to share this gift with North American audiences. This deeply moving performance and uniquely framed tale delivers a profound new humanistic insight into questions of economic justice.”
