Just after raising his profile with an acclaimed performance in Selma, David Oyelowo is back with another possibly riveting film. He stars in Nightingale, a new film HBO will air next week. He’s actually the only star in this film.

Oyelowo plays Peter Snowden, a veteran who is obsessed with an old army friend. The film shows his feelings, worries and concerns the night before the meeting. According to Indiewire, it is a BN Films production and was directed by Elliott Lester. Frederick Mensch wrote the script, which landed on the Hollywood Black List.

In an interview with Deadline, Oyelowo said that he tried to stay in character during the 16-day shoot.

“I think that helped a lot because it would have been more exhausting to be going in and out, to have a day of shooting, go home to my wife and kids and then the next day feel like I’ve got to go back,” the British actor explained. “So I moved out of my home and into a friend’s apartment for three weeks.”

By the looks of his performance in the trailer, this should earn Oyelowo an Emmy nomination. Then again, we said the same thing about his performance in Selma, but he ended up missing out on an Oscar nomination.

Nightengale airs on Friday, May 29 at 9 p.m.
