Two years after America learned the names of three women who were abducted and imprisoned in a Cleveland home for several years, one of those women has released a song appropriately titled “Survivor.”
People.com noted that last year one of those courageous victims said she wanted to one day release a song with a powerful and positive message. Well, on Tuesday, Michelle Knight did just that when she released the song on iTunes, Google Play and Amazon.
“Survivor” was accompanied by a video which debuted on the same day on FOX8 in Cleveland.
"They tell me I'm nothing. That I was born a mistake (and) try to convince me my existence has been faded to gray," Knight sings. "And that I'm worthless, but it don't hurt me to say I've been through hell and back but can't you see the smile on my face."
Knight, along with Amanda Berry and Georgina "Gina" DeJesus were kidnapped by Castro and held captive in his home for years until Berry got the attention of a neighbor and called police. Knight and DeJesus were then rescued by responding officers.
Castro plead guilty to over 900 counts of rape, kidnapping and other offenses. He was sentenced to life in prison plus 1,000 years. However, after serving just one month of his sentence, he hung himself in his cell.
