Attorneys for Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev rested its case Monday morning after a nun testified on the convicted bomber’s behalf.

The Associated Press noted that the defense rested after Sister Helen Prejean, who became known after Susan Sarandon portrayed her in the 1995 film “Dead Man Walking,” met with Tsarnaev several times and said he is remorseful.

"I had every reason to think that he was taking it in and that he was genuinely sorry for what he did," Prejean testified.

The nun went on to say that she could hear it in the 21-year-old’s voice that he truly regretted the 2013 attack that left three people dead and more than 250 injured.

As previously reported, the defense was expected to rests it case last Thursday, but instead decided to conclude after Prejean’s testimony.

Tsarnaev was found guilty in April on all 30 counts against him. In this phase of the trial, jurors will be deciding if he should receive the death penalty or spend the rest of his natural life behind bars.
