Country group Little Big Town has been at the center of controversy regarding their latest single, "Girl Crush" but now the group is ready to perform the song front and center at the upcoming Billboard Music Awards with help from country superstar Faith Hill.

People reported that the awards will be taking place on May 17th. Karen Fairchild sat down with People and shed more light on why the band felt it was necessary and important to sing a song like "Girl Crush."

"I think it's really great that we're discussing this. We're talking about good songs. The agenda is to get great songs out to the fans and I think we're accomplishing that," said Fairchild.

As previously reported "Girl Crush" was pulled from many radio stations because some felt that the lyrics were too inappropriate. The group defended their song and said they knew it was provocative but wanted to record it anyway.

"I love party songs. We had two huge no. 1's on good party songs, it's not that I'm against that, I just think all the artists would love to dig deeper into their records and put songs out like 'Girl Crush.' "
