When Fantastic Four director Josh Trank left the second Star Wars Anthology film, there were rumors that it might have to do with the difficult production of the new Fox superhero film. Rumors about reshoots and even new scenes directed by someone else went flying around, but Trank insists that he’s the only director on the film.

According to Superherohype, Fox held test screenings, which drew poor responses. At that point, the studio ordered reshoots, but not with Trank. Kingsman: The Secret Service director Matthew Vaughn was called in to helm these new scenes.

In addition, Comingsoon.net’s April interview with Tim Blake Nelson appeared to confirm that reshoots were taking place, although Nelson said Trank was still directing.

“I have no idea, but they’re written by Simon Kinberg and they’re being directed by Josh, and these are two very strong-willed, opinionated people, so I can’t imagine there’s gonna be some wild departure from what they had in mind when they first set out to collaborate,” Nelson said at the time.

According to Trank, this is all bunk. He tweeted director to Superherohype, telling them that he never met Vaughn and there were no test screenings. He told another writer that he’s definitely the only director on FF. Lastly, the Chronicle director said that no one should believe stories with unnamed sources.

All these rumors came after a Hollywood Reporter report that was published in the wake of him leaving Star Wars. That report claimed that Lucasfilm heard about the troubles Fox was allegedly having with Trank, which lead to him leaving that project.

FF hits theaters on Aug. 7.
