The first trailer for Jem and the Holograms, Universal and Hasbro’s film version of the beloved ‘80s animated series, has finally hit the web. It shows how the concept has been modernized, while still keeping the looks that fans still love.
Aubrey Peeples stars as Jem, who gains fame after she posts a song on YouTube, which goes viral. At first, the other members of the group - played by Stefanie Scott, Hayley Kiyoko and Aurora Perrineau - are excited about the opportunity with a record label, but then it becomes clear that they will have to change their image. Another key dramatic point comes when Jem tries to go solo. She will have to learn the importance of being in a team if she hopes to regain her glory.
The cast also includes Juliette Lewis, Ryan Guzman and Molly Ringwald.
Jem And The Holograms as a movie has only existed as an idea for a year. It was only in March 2014 that producer Jason Blum, who is better known for horror films, and director Jon M. Chu announced that the project was in the works. Now, it’s almost finished and the movie will hit theaters on Oct. 23.
