There are 12 more days until Jurassic World comes to theaters, and it still remains one of the summer's biggest question marks. While no official reviews have come out just yet, the sequel already had its premiere in Paris, and with that the first unofficial reactions to the film have come online.
The responses, collected by Slashfilm, are primarily tweets from audience members lucky enough to see it early so take them with a grain of salt. That said, among the attendees was Josh Gad, who apparently had a great time with director Colin Trevorrow's new sequel.
He said Trevorrow "hit a grand slam" and stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard "kill." He apparently was quite taken by Howard's performance, as he later talked about how he "cannot begin to describe how kick-ass and awesome" she is in the movie, and that she "is about to blow minds" with her work. He also went as far as to call Jurassic World's final 20 minutes "cinematic bliss."
The other reactions were not from as high profile figures, but they remained about as enthusiastic with the film as the Frozen star. The words "amazing" and "great" were used to describe the blockbuster, with some users claiming it to be the best sequel in the series, putting it just behind Steven Spielberg's 1993 original. That's some pretty high praise, although considering how poor both The Lost World and Jurassic Park III ended up, that may not mean too much.
Off Twitter, Slashfilm also received an email from a user who had friends attend the screening, and from his second-hand response it seems three of the four people he knew loved the movie. They said it had "a lot of charm" and was "incredibly well put together." They also noted it gets very action-heavy after the first 45 minutes. He said a person, whom he didn't name but writes reviews/articles, dropped him an email out-of-the-blue and said Trevorrow's film was "very good."
Whether or not Jurassic World lives up to expectations or hopes, don't expect Trevorrow to return for the next dinosaur-themed adventure. In a recent interview with badtaste.it, transcribed by ComingSoon.net, the Safety Not Guaranteed filmmaker revealed he would be involved "in some way, but not as (a) director."
"Jurassic Park is like Star Wars," he explained. "Different directors can give a different taste to each movie."
Of the four movies, only Spielberg directed more than one Jurassic Park film, with Joe Johnston behind the third feature. There's no word yet on who would replace Trevorrow, but with the sequel tracked to debut its opening weekend past the $100 million mark, chances are someone at Universal will find a replacement. In the meantime, Trevorrow is currently attached to helm Intelligent Life as his follow-up project.
Here are the tweets mentioned above. Jurassic World stomps into theaters on June 12.
