A man in Florida, who shot at George Zimmerman earlier this week, has been arrested and charged.

Reuters noted that Matthew Apperson was arrested Friday and charged with aggravated assault and battery with a deadly weapon and firing a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle.

"After conducting numerous interviews throughout the week, detectives determined that Mr. Apperson did intentionally fire his weapon into the vehicle occupied by George Zimmerman without provocation," the Lake Mary Police Department said in a statement.

As previously reported, Apperson allegedly admitted to shooting at Zimmerman and asked a bystander to call 911.

Apperson’s attorney Mark NeJame, said that his client only shot at Zimmerman in self-defense after he brandished a firearm and then called for help.

Zimmerman stood trial and was eventually acquitted in the 2012 fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, in which he claimed he acted in self-defense.

Since his acquittal almost two years ago, Zimmerman has had several brushes with the law including accusations of threatening his ex-girlfriend with a gun, allegedly destroying his ex-wife’s property and traffic violations.

Charges for those alleged incidents were later dropped.
