Even though the first The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie helped Sean Connery decide to retire, Fox is going to return to the comic book series created by Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill.

News of the reboot was first posted by The Tracking Board. Fox and David Entertainment’s John Davis are producing. Ira Napoliello and Matt Reilly will oversee for the studio.

This will actually be the studio’s third attempt at turning the series into a project. Aside from the 2003 film, Fox tried to make a TV series in 2013. According to Variety, Fox did order a pilot, but the show never made it past that sage. It was written by Michael Green (Green Lantern).

League centers on a group of Victorian-era fictional characters like Captain Nemo, The Invisible Man, Dorian Gray, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Alan Quatermain fighting an evil madman. It started with a 15-issue series in 1999.

The 2003 film was Connery’s last movie before he retired. It was hammered by critics and only has a 17 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Still, the movie did make $180 million worldwide. If Fox does justice to the material, then they could have a new franchise on their hands.

Moore is also the author of Watchmen and V For Vendetta, which were both turned into movies by Warner Bros.
