An Iowa couple who got engaged at another couple’s wedding was widely attacked online, but it turns out that it was the bride’s idea because the woman getting engaged was her sister.

Earlier this week, an image from the wedding mysteriously surfaced on Reddit and Imgur with the title “Any girl’s wedding nightmare.” It shows the man proposing right in front of the married couple.

While the man was blasted for his poorly-timed proposal, it turns out that there is a shocking twist - the Internet didn’t get the whole story. The woman who was proposed to, Megan, told the New York Daily News that her fiance and her sister had it planned before the wedding.

“My fiancé told her he didn't want to ruin their day and she insisted it would only make it better!” Megan told the Daily News. “The groom of the wedding actually held my engagement ring the entire trip! Everyone in the Reddit picture knew the proposal was going to happen except for me!”

Megan, who provided the Daily News with more pictures from the wedding, insisted that it was her sister’s idea, especially since the two couples have been so close for years. Her fiance told her sister that he wanted to propose to her on the beach, since the wedding was in California. But her sister suggested that he propose inside during the wedding reception.

Megan added that it was “sad” to see so many people attack her fiance on Reddit with absolutely no context. “I guess if I didn't know the whole story, then I would feel the same way as some of them; however, I wouldn't voice my opinion about it because it's none of my business,” she told the Daily News.
