Today is officially Geek Pride Day, which originated in Spain as “El Dia Del Orgullo ‘Friki.'" Digging deeper into its origination, the movie Star Wars, released in 1977 on May 25, was the inspiration behind the creation of this so sentimental day for geeks and nerds alike.
Time goes on to explain that this year’s Geek Pride Day is especially important due to the fact the new Star Wars release is just months away - Star Wars: Episode VII.
To celebrate, fans are watching Star Wars marathons while snuggling inside. Other activities - while the movie of course rages on in the background - can include reading books, barbecuing and even some quality time with the family.
Even MTV News provides insight of some of our favorite celebrities and their geeky quirks.
Ashton Kutcher is quoted as saying “smart is sexy." Natalie Portman confesses to skipping out on going to watch the Star Wars premiere and dedicating herself as an educated geek, finishing her degree at Harvard.
To everyone celebrating their inner geeks, don’t forget that taking pride as a geek that should be let loose every day. As part of our identities, people should take advantage of this day to not only finally “come out” as a geek, but also to embrace our obsessions and the little quirks that are our passions.
Whether the activities include eating, reading, watching TV or playing video games, Geek Pride Day is a holiday that is becoming more and more recognized as an official holiday each year.
Oh yeah, of course the brilliant mind is always welcome on National Geek Pride day as well.
