Robert Downey Jr. doesn’t need to make an indie movie, but if you ever had the guts to ask him to be in one, he’d say no. The Avengers: Age of Ultron star is all-in when it comes to blockbusters and can’t be bothered with small movies.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly Radio, Downey said that he never make a small movie to take a break from the Marvel epics.

“Because they’re exhausting and sometimes they suck and then you just go, ‘What was I thinking?’ But I’m interested in doing all different kinds of movies,” Downey explained. He said that they can take a long time to make because if they are running behind, producers will ask you to stay on the movie, even during holidays. Then, he would have to promote the movie for six straight days and then it doesn’t make any money in theaters.

“‘God, this is so powerful what we’re doing,’” Downey’s imaginary indie producer says. “‘What do you think of the movie? You saw it last night?’”

“I thought it’s mediocre,” Downey would reply. And after this filmmaker tells him that he’s an artist,Downey would reply, “Actually, most of you are kind of inexperienced and lame.”

While Downey may be right that not all indie movies turn out great, it seems a bit strange for him to suggest that blockbusters are somehow less demanding than indie projects. After all, he’s going to spend nine months making the next two Avengers movies. He’s also done an incredible amount of interviews and talk show appearances to promote Age of Ultron.

Also, Downey has done smaller movies in recent years. Between Iron Man 3 and Ultron, he appeared in Iron Man director Jon Favreau’s Chef. He was also seen in Warner Bros.’ mid-budget drama The Judge. But it sounds like he might be done with that and isn’t interested in awards.

Considering how he’s the highest-paid actor in the world, that isn’t going to bother him.
