An attorney representing a friend of folk singer Joni Mitchell told a judge on Monday that she could be leaving the hospital soon.

During a hearing in Los Angeles to decide who will make decisions about her future while she is unable to, attorney Alan Watenmaker asked Superior Court Judge David S. Cunningham III to make Leslie Morris Mitchell’s conservator. According to the Associated Press, Cunningham granted the request. Rebecca Thyne, an attorney representing Mitchell’s interests, also agreed.

As conservator, Morris will be able to make decisions about Mitchell’s health care once she leaves the hospital.

Last week, Morris, who has been a close friend of Mitchell’s for over 40 years, filed legal documents seeking conservatorship over Mitchell. While these documents sparked rumors that Mitchell was now in a coma and unresponsive, this was not the case.

“Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital - but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected,” the statement read in part.

Mitchell has been hospitalized since March 31. She’s best known for songs like “Big Yellow Taxi,” “Both Sides Now,” “Woodstock,” “Chelsea Morning” and many others.
