R&B singer Lauryn Hill has canceled her upcoming concert in Israel due to growing unrest and protests in the country.

The Guardian reported that Hill was supposed to be performing near Tel Aviv. The artist was faced with an overwhelming amount of social media pressure by activists to cancel her show. The activists urged her to not play Israel because of its occupation of Palestinian land.

The singer posted a message to fans on her website about why she chose to cancel the show, explaining that she wanted to perform but she felt is necessary to support justice and peace. "I’ve wanted very much to bring our live performance to this part of the world, but also to be a presence supporting justice and peace. It is very important to me that my presence or message not be misconstrued, or a source of alienation to either my Israeli or my Palestinian fans."

She did say that she was working on finding a different medium to deliver her music to fans in that area of the world.

In the early 1990s Hill rose to fame with her debut album and became a mainstream success overnight. Recently she has been focusing on side projects and slowly returning to the spotlight.
