There were a few changes on the Magnificent Seven front, with one actor leaving and another joining. Jason Momoa, the future Aquaman is out, while Peter Sarsgaard joined for another part.
The casting shuffle was first reported by Deadline, which noted that Sarsgaard is in talks to play Bartholomew Bogue, a robber whose thugs kill a man. The man’s wife goes on to hire the titular group of seven mercenaries to help save her small town.
Momoa had been in talks for one of the smaller roles. Deadline reported that the former Game of Thrones star likely thought that his part was too small, considering that he’s just about to become a big star with Aquaman. However, MGM and Sony denied that.
The Magnificent Seven remake stars Matt Bomer, Denzel Washington, Vincent D’Onofrio, Ethan Hawke, Byung-Hun Lee and Haley Bennett. Washington’s The Equalizer director, Antoine Fuqua, is helming the project.
The film is a remake of the famous 1960 Western, which was based on Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai. It is currently scheduled to hit theaters in January 2017.
