This Memorial Day box office weekend is coming down to a tight race between Tomorrowland and Pitch Perfect 2.
The Wrap reported that Brad Bird's Tomorrowland grossed $9.7 million at the box office Friday but has tough competition from last week's No. 1 Pitch Perfect 2. Perfect grossed $9.6 million on Friday and is on track for grossing over $40 million over the long weekend.
Perfect which stars, Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld, will likely cross the $100 million mark domestically on Saturday.
Also released this weekend was the horror remake Poltergeist, which came in third place on Friday followed by Mad Max: Fury Road coming in the fourth spot, Variety added.
Tomorrowland was directed by Brad Bird and stars Britt Robertson, Hugh Laurie and George Clooney. The sci-fi action adventure cost $150 million to make.
