Matthew Makela, an anti-gay pastor and married father of five in Midland, Michigan, was discovered to have a Grindr profile where he cruised the internet for gay sex.
When screen shots of Makela’s profile were leaked, he resigned from his position as pastor at the St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Queerty posted the screenshots from his chat with a potential hookup, as well as shirtless photos he sent.
Last year, he wrote an op/ed called A Stand for the Truth, in which he called being gay “sinful” and compared it to “temptation to steal or lie or overeat,” which “must be resisted and overcome.”
He’s also criticized members of the LGBTQ community on Facebook and wrote members of the trans community will assist “opportunistic sickos in preying upon children and others.”
Makela’s name has been removed from the church’s website and a letter from the senior pastor, Reverend Daniel Kempin, acknowledging Makela’s “sin and repentance" has been posted.
“I write this to you to warn you that you may be confronted with the details of the sin,” he also wrote.
