Fire officials in Nashville, Tennessee rescued a man who was stuck in a storm drain for several days.

According to WKRN, the 53-year-old man was rescued on Sunday after he had been trapped there for four days. Brian Williams said was attending a swim meet around 12:30 p.m. local time when he heard the man’s cries. He and his family were able to see him, but he was too far back for them to get to.

Williams said that the man was so happy to see that people had located him.

“Praise God. Thank you. I have been down here forever,” Williams recalled him saying. “And he was just very happy at that point.”

The Tennessean reported that fire officials were called to the scene and used shovels and sledge hammers to free the man from the 12-to-14-inch drain.

After about 45 minutes, the man was pulled to safety and transported to a hospital. He suffered some cuts, bruises and appeared to be dehydrated, but is extremely thankful the ordeal is over.
