Natalie Portman has had a surprisingly busy week, lining up new projects for the foreseeable future. Two of the movies have her playing important real-life figures.

Last week, Portman began talks with Paramount and Ex Machina filmmaker Alex Garland to join his next film, Annihilation. According to The Hollywood Reporter, that project would have the Oscar winner playing a biologist on an expedition to a territory that has been cut off from civilization. It is based on a book by Jeff VanderMeer.

Also last week, Portman joined On The Basis of Sex, which could be directed by Marielle Heller (The Diary of a Teenage Girl). Focus Features is financing, reports Deadline.

On The Basis of Sex would have Portman playing Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. It was written by Daniel Stiepleman and the script landed on the 2014 Black List.

Portman’s name has also been hot at the Cannes Film Market. Just before the festival got started there, Variety reported that she joined Planetarium, a horror film directed by French director Rebecca Zlotowski. She will star opposite Lily Rose Depp and they will play sisters who have supernatural powers to communicate with ghosts.

Variety also reported this morning that Portman has joined No director Pablo Larrain’s Jackie, in which she will play Jackie Kennedy in the days after President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. Darren Aronofsky, who directed Portman to an Oscar in Black Swan, will produce.

Portman is currently in Cannes for the screening of her directing debut, A Tale Of Love And Darkness, which she made in Israel. She also completed Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups and Jane Got A Gun.
