Nicole Kidman gave one of her most sincere and emotional performances to date in 2010's Rabbit Hole, and deservedly received her third Oscar nomination for her work. To keep a good thing going, then, the actress reunites with director John Cameron Mitchell for his latest project How to Talk to Girls at Parties, which will also star Elle Fanning.
It was nearly a year ago when Fanning's involvement and the project's announcement came out last July, but it looks as though Mitchell's fourth film is finally coming together. Screen Daily announced the casting news but it's unclear who she plays in the film. She and Fanning are also joined by Matt Lucas and Ruth Wilson.
How to Talk to Girls at Parties is an adaptation of Neil Gaiman's short story with a screenplay by Mitchell and Philippa Goslett. The tone is considered a comedy-romance with musical elements, and the plot is described as "Romeo and Juliet with punks and aliens." It centers on an alien (Fanning) who tours the galaxy but breaks away from her group and meets "two young inhabitants of the most dangerous place in the universe: the London suburb of Croydon."
An autumn shoot is in the works for How to Talk to Girls at Parties in the UK. Additionally, producers apparently are in talks with some big-name musicians to make an original score for the film. Also, the cast members will lend their voice to a handful of songs.
Producers on the movie are Howard Gertler from Little Punk, Iain Canning and Emilie Sherman for See-Saw, as well as Michael J. Werner and Winnie Lau as executive producers. Gaiman, meanwhile, remains "closely involved" with the film.
“Nicole responded very quickly and enthusiastically to the script when John sent it to her,” Gertler told the report.
Kidman, who recently was seen in Paddington, soon is seen in Strangerland, Queen of the Desert, The Family Fang, Genius, Lion and the Secret of Their Eyes remake. She also recently signed on to star alongside Reese Witherspoon in the HBO mini-series Big Little Lies.
