One Direction’s Liam Payne spilled the most details we’ve heard thus far on Zayn Malik’s exit from the group, saying he wanted to be with his family and his fiancé, Perrie Edwards, instead of traveling the world with his bandmates.
Payne appeared on Capital FM’s radio show Capital Breakfast and he was asked if he missed Malik.
“Of course,” he replied. “I mean you know, he had to do what he had to do really, for himself. It’s like any other job really; sometimes you have to move on because you’re not enjoying what you’re doing as much.”
He went on to say about Edwards, “He wanted to go and spend some time with his family and missus.” Malik left in March, when rumors were swirling that he had cheated on the Little Mix singer.
Payne also said they’re still “great mates” despite Malik’s recent argument with Louis Tomlinson on Twitter.
“We’re just going to carry on doing what we’re doing,” he continued. “We wish him [Zayn] all the best with whatever he goes into and stuff. We’ll just have to see what happens.”
