Musician Prince has recorded a song in response to the events that have taken place recently in Baltimore after the death of Freddie Gray.
CNN reported on Thursday that the singer’s publicist made the announcement but did not give a release date.
While the song is said to be a tribute to the residents of Charm City, USA Today noted that spokesperson Yvette Noel-Schure said the track also "addresses the unrest in Baltimore and the socio/political issues around the country in the wake of a slew of killings of young black men."
As previously reported, the nation watched as Monday, the day Gray was laid to rest, turned into a day of looting, arson and other violence. Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan issued a state of emergency and activated the National Guard to assist law enforcement. In addition, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake then imposed a citywide curfew that went onto effect Tuesday. Since the curfew, the streets of the city have been relatively quiet.
Prince is a native of Minneapolis, which is one of the many cities in the country where protests are taking place. Most have been peaceful demonstrations.
