Prince, who already showed support for the people of Baltimore by announcing a new song named after the city, will perform at a special concert this Sunday called “Rally 4 Peace.” The show comes after days of unrest following the death of Freddie Gray, who was injured while in police custody.
Tickets for the show at Royal Famrs Arena will go on sale today at 5 p.m. on Livenation.com, reports The New York Times. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to yoout charities in Baltimore.
“In a spirit of healing, the event is meant to be a catalyst for pause and reflection following the outpouring of violence that has gripped Baltimore and areas throughout the U.S.,” the concert promoter said in a statement Tuesday. Concertgoers are also asked to wear gray “as a symbolic message of our shared humanity and love for one another.”
Late last week, the iconic guitarist announced a new track called “Baltimore.” While the full track hasn’t been released, he told KMSP that he was thinking about posting it on Jay Z’s TIDAL.
The song begins, “Nobody got in nobody’s way/So eye guess u could say/It was a good day/At least a little better than the day in Baltimore.”
Six police officers have been charged in the death of Gray. He died on April 19 after a suffering a spinal injury while in custody.
