Prosecutors in Aruba said that they are not buying the claims of a man who said he witnessed what happened to missing Alabama teen Natalee Holloway a decade ago.
We reported that earlier this month Natalee’s father Dave Holloway flew back to the island where his daughter went missing to follow a tip from Dutch citizen Jurrien de Jong.
The alleged witness said that he saw Holloway with Joran van der Sloot the night she went missing. He claims that he watched as van der Sloot carried her body and placed it in a crawl space at a site that was under construction at the time. He claims that he didn’t contact police then because he had his own legal troubles.
However, as CNN noted, Aruba’s chief prosecutor Eric Olthof very much doubts de Jong’s story as does the Marriott Hotel, which stands where he claimed the construction site was. Marriott said that there was no construction being done there on May 30, 2005 when Holloway disappeared. But her father said that when he got to the island on June 1, 2005, he remembered construction going on at that exact spot. Moreover, a Google Earth image taken back then also appears to support the claim.
Many believe that van der Sloot was involved in the teen’s disappearance. He is currently serving time in a Peruvian jail for the murder of another woman.
