Is Rebel Wilson really telling us the truth about her life? It turns out that she’s not only been fudging some facts about her backstory, but the Australian Pitch Perfect 2 star is also not telling us her right age.

On Monday, Australia’s Woman’s Day reported that wilson was really born Melanie Elizabeth Bownds and is 36, not 29 as she has previously told the international press. She even might be making up the story about her famous dog-training parents (a story she repeated on The Daily Show).

“I studied with Rebel at Tara Anglican School for Girls in North Parramatta, Sydney,” a source told the tabloid. “But no-one knew of a Rebel Wilson. Her name is – or was – Melanie Elizabeth Bownds, and she’s 36 – she was born in 1979 and we left school in 1997.”

But it turns out that this isn’t just some tabloid report trying to hop on the back of the popularity of a new movie. The Sydney Morning Herald dug up Australian Securities and Investment Commission business records, which confirm that Wilson was born “Rebel Melanie Elizabeth Wilson” on March 2, 1980. Bizarrely, her IMDb page lists that she was born a month earlier on Feb. 3, 1980.

With all this attention on her age, Wilson turned it into a joke:

Wilson stars as Fat Amy in the Pitch Perfect films. The new film made nearly $70 million this weekend, earning the best opening ever for a musical.
