Reese Witherspoon was the host for Saturday Night Live and instead of the traditional monologue, she had the cast of the show come out onstage with their mothers to apologize for the antics they had to put up with from their children.
E! News reported Witherspoon’s own mother, Betty Witherspoon, came on stage at the end and the actress apologized for lying about going to a friend’s house so she could go to a hotel with her boyfriend at the time.
Some of the apologies were playful, such as one apology from Bobby Moynihan for blaming their wheelchair-bound grandma for writing on the walls, and others were downright shocking, such as Beck Bennett using a vibrating pen for other activities.
People reported that of course, the mothers had their own embarrassment to dole out when Betty revealed they had their own apologies to give. “We’re sorry that we’re about to show a bunch of home videos of you kids,” the proud mother spoke as Reese could only respond with, “What?”
The last time Witherspoon was host on SNL was Sep. 29, 2001. Her film with Sofia Vergara, Hot Pursuit, was released the day before the show aired. Next week’s season finale will feature Louis C.K. as host and will also feature a performance from Rihanna.
