Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, who has yet to see how his Sundance hit Me and Earl and the Dying Girl will do with the general public, already has his next project in the works and star power to go with it. Both Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara will star in the film.

Sources told Variety that Gomez-Rejon plans on directing the film, titled Collateral Beauty. It still doesn’t have financing or a distributor. Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar and Brad Dorros will produce.

The project centers on a man working in a New York ad agency. He goes into a downward spiral after a tragedy. It was written by Allan Loeb.

Gomez-Rejon’s feature debut, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, was a big hit at Sundance and will be released by Fox Searchlight on June 12. He previously directed TV episodes of Glee, American Horror Story and others.

Collateral Beauty will be looking for distributors at the Cannes film market. Considering that both Mara and Jackman are already attached, that shouldn’t be too hard.

Mara is also in Cannes to attend the premiere of Carol, the new film from Todd Haynes with Cate Blanchett. The film is screening in competition.

Clips from Carol were posted at Indiewire.
