This weekend box office is turning into a huge success for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and San Andreas. The disaster film is on track to earn $47 million at the box office during its debut weekend.
Variety reported that on Friday Andreas earned $18.2 million.
As previously reported, that Andreas was estimated to make around $40 million mark. The movie has opened in 3,777 theaters and a majority of those showings are taking place in 3-D. Andreas cost $110 million to produce, with Warners and Village Roadshow co-financing and co-producing the project.
The other film that was making a major debut this weekend was Cameron Crowe's Aloha. The romantic comedy only earned in $3.6 million during Friday showings. Aloha has come under fire from critics for having Emma Stone play an Asian-American in the film, Entertainment Weekly added. Aloha stars Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone and Rachel McAdams.
