Sandra Lee is recovering at home after undergoing surgery for a double mastectomy following her March breast cancer diagnosis.

With the support of her boyfriend, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, she is doing “as well as can be expected," he said on Tuesday.

In a statement, he explained, "Around 8 a.m. this morning, Sandy underwent surgery that concluded just before 1 p.m,” adding she has “begun the post-surgery recovery process,” Los Angeles Times reports.

Last week, Lee made the announcement on Good Morning America that she made the decision to get a double mastectomy. In her case, the mastectomy wasn’t mandatory but she chose this method of treatment so eliminate “going through this again.”

She was diagnosed with DCIS, or ductal carcinoma in situ, which can be treated with a lumpectomy then radiation.

Lee told People of her new perspective, “Life can turn on a dime.”

"On behalf of Sandy and myself, I want to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers over the last few days. Your support has meant the world to us," Cuomo continued.
