Nine brains were recently found near a railroad crossing in Gouverneur, New York, which left people in the community puzzled and scared.

According to Fox News, the brains were dumped on the street but seemed to be for educational or research purposes leaving no worry of harm by people near the area.

One local veterinarian identified the brains as possible Beagle brains and they were preserved in formaldehyde.

According to North Country Now, the veterinarian who studied the brains was surprised of their perfect condition.

“It had been professionally removed and preserved… it was in very good condition,” Dr. Timothy Monroe said.

“You have to appreciate when you remove a brain from a skull, which is made of bone, you have to cut the bone al the way around. This had not been damaged, or nicked, or cut in its removal,” he added.

The general theory, authorities said, is that someone may have tossed the organs out of a moving train passing by.
