Slain New York City police officer Brian Moore was laid to rest on Friday and promoted to detective by Police Commissioner Bill Bratton.

Newsweek reported that during the ceremony Bratton said, "Once again, we find ourselves in mourning much too soon," referencing the death of the 25-year-old and four other department officers who have been killed in the past five months.

Bratton went on to say that he has attended far too many funerals for police officers over the years.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio also spoke about the young cop.

"Brian Moore represents the best of New York City," the mayor said. "He was brave for sure, but his bravery was matched by his compassion."

CNN noted that thousands of men in blue gathered in Long Island from as far away as Louisiana and California to honor Moore.

As previously reported, he was shot in the face while on duty last Saturday in Queens. He suffered brain trauma and was taken off of life support on Monday. The alleged shooter Demetrius Blackwell, has been charged with murder and other offenses.

Moore leaves behind his father and cousins who were also police officers.
