Sony is going to remake The Craft, the cult 1996 horror film that starred Robin Tunney, Neve Campbell, Rachel True and Fairuza Balk. Doug Wick, who produced the original, will also produce the remake.

News of the remake was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, which notes that Leigh Janiak was hired to direct. She will co-write with her Honeymoon collaborator Phil Graziadei.

Honeymoon premiered at SXSW in 2014 and was distributed by Magnolia Pictures. The film made such an impression that she was promptly hired by MTV to direct an episode of the network’s Scream series. Before her film debut, Janiak was producer Kevin Misher’s assistant.

As for the original The Craft, it was directed by Andrew Fleming. Tunney played a student at a Catholic school who becomes friends with wannabe witches (Campbell, True and Balk). They end up learning that playing with magic can be dangerous. The cast also included Skeet Unkrich, Breckin Meyer and Christine Taylor.

The Craft is just the latest ‘90s teen movie that could be getting a remake. There were rumors last month that 1999’s She’s All That was getting redone as well. Let’s just hope that a Clueless remake doesn’t happen.
