Annie Leibovitz took a lot of pictures for Vanity Fair’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens story, but a few of them didn’t make the final issue. One of them was a picture of Andy Serkis, whose voice was actually heard during the first The Force Awakens trailer.

That photo of Serkis was finally published today on StarWars.com, along with an interview with the famous photographer. Serkis is shown in motion capture gear and the name of his character is Supreme Leader Snoke.

It’s possible that the photo didn’t make the cut because there was already a photo of another actor in mo-cap gear. The magazine included a picture of Lupita Nyong’o in her mo-cap outfit, as she plays Maz Katana, an outlaw with a castle.

Another reason might have been because we’re all so used to seeing Serkis in a mo-cap outfit. He’s played several CGI-animated characters before, including Gollum in The Lord of the Rings, the title character of Peter Jackson’s King Kong remake and Caesar in the new Planet of the Apes movies.

The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams, hits theaters on Dec. 18. Other new stars joining the franchise include John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver.
