The coolest guy in the galaxy, Lando Calrissian, might not have a part in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but that doesn’t mean that he won’t appear in any new Disney/Lucasfilm Star Wars movies. Writer Lawrence Kasdan teased that the franchise might not be done with the character.
“Right now, there’s no Lando Calrissian in this movie,” Lasdan told Vanity Fair in newly published comments that didn’t make Bruce Handy’s cover story. “But Lando I don’t think is finished in any way, shape, or form.”
That sounds like a tease for a possible Star Wars Anthology film about Han Solo’s old buddy. Lando was played by Billy Dee Williams in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. He’s a fan-favorite, especially thanks to Williams’ excellent performance.
Kasdan co-wrote Empire and Jedi and was hired to work on the Force Awakens script with director J.J. Abrams after Michael Arndt left the project. He also told Handy that it was fun to revisit Luke, Leia and Han, who are now around the same age as he is.
“So since we’ve treated it as 30 years passing in the film, there’s no artificiality about that. You get to infuse them to the extent that you can with your experience of 30 years on,” Kasdan said.
The Force Awakens hits theaters on Dec. 18.
