A film about The Kinks, the legendary British rock band, is in the works from director Julien Temple. His daughter, Juno Temple, will have a part in the film.

The project, titled You Really Got Me, is set to star Johnny Flynn (Clouds of Sils Maria) as Ray Davies and George Mackay (Pride) as Dave Davies. According to Screen Daily, the script was written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais.

Temple is best known for helming the Sex Pistols mockumentary The Great Rock ‘N’ Roll Swindle, notes NME. He is also set to direct the long-gestating Marvin Gaye biopic Sexual Healing.

June Temple, who was just in Far from the Madding Crowd, will play Ray Davies’ former wide, Raza.

Ray and Dave Davies were the brothers who fronted the Kinks. The group is known for hits like “You Really Got Me,” “Waterloo Sunset” and “Lola.”

Jeremy Thomas, the Oscar-winning producer of The Last Emperor, is producing You Really Got Me. BBC Films is financing and the Belgian co-producers include Jacqueline de Goeij and Ralph Broos from Zilvermeer.

“This is the story of the brothers growing up and the group’s later disbanding,” Thomas told Screen Daily. “They are the Cain and Abel of rock but their story isn’t known as well as it should be.”

Thomas said that Ray and Dave Davies will both produce new music for the film.
