Good magicians never tell you how they did it, so don’t expect to hear Lionsgate explain how they are turning Now You See Me into a trilogy. Yes, the studio announced Now You See Me 3, a month before the second film opens.
The new project was announced in Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer’s Friday conference call with analysts after the studio’s quarterly earnings were released. “We’ve already begun early planning for Now You See Me 3,” he said, reports Variety.
Now You See Me became a cheap franchise for the studio after the first one made $350 million in 2013. The second film hits theaters on June 10 and stars Jesse Eisenberg, Michael Caine, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Dave FRanco and Lizzy Caplan. Isla Fisher dropped out since she was pregnant, but perhaps she could be back for Now You See Me 3.
Lionsgate has Hunger Games ending this year, so the studio does need a new franchise, it’s just that no one saw Now You See Me turning into one. Perhaps this third one will be called Now You Don’t? That’s more exciting than Now You See Me: The Second Act.
