“We got the world we deserve,” a voice says in the new trailer for True Detective, proving that the show might have new characters, but the words in Nic Pizzolatto's series still have layers of meanings.
HBO released the second trailer for the second season, which has to be the most anticipated television show of the summer. Unlike the first trailer, which was a wordless montage, this new one adds in some dialogue.
It’s still not clear what exactly the plot of the Los Angeles-set season is, but we know that Vince Vaughn is the villain and it still involves the transportation system. Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams play detectives, although it looks like they are still on different sides of the law. Taylor Kitsch also plays a highway patrol officer.
Unlike the first season of True Detective, not all episodes will be directed by the same helmer. Justin Lin directed the first two episodes, but Pizzolatto did write all eight episodes.
It was suspected that the plot would focus on the occult aspect of the U.S. transportation system, much like how season one dealt with voodoo in Louisiana. However, Pizzolatto said in a statement that this is no longer the case.
“There’s definitely bad men and hard women, but no secret occult history of the U.S. transportation system,” Pizzolatto said, notes Den Of Geek. “That was a comment from very early in the process, and something I ended up discarding in favor of closer character work and a more grounded crime story. The complexity of the historical conspiracy first conceived detracted from the characters and their reality, I felt, and those characters are ultimately what have to shape the world and story. So I moved away from that.”
