A high school located in Utah is under fire after a mother was stunned to find out her special needs daughter was excluded from the yearbook.

According to Fox59, Leslee Bailey noticed her daughter, Amber, was not included in the yearbook for Blue Peak High School.

The special needs students at the school, as well as Amber, take classes at the Community Learning Center, which is in the same facility at the school.

The last two yearbooks beforehand reportedly did include the students and the director of special education for Tooele County, Mat Jackson, said the changes were made because “They don’t participate in classes with those Blue Peak High School kids.”

TIME reported that school officials made the claim that since the students were involved in the transitional program that was created to help them move on after high school, they shouldn’t be included in activities for the school.

However, Bailey feels the decision is akin to going “back in time to where we’re not including them. And we are going to tuck them away and say, ‘No they don’t exist.’”
