The White House was placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon after a man was arrested for allegedly trying to fly a drone over the north side gate.

Witnesses told CNN that a man was attempting to fly some sort of remote-controlled drone over the White House fence before he was detained by Secret Service agents.

The man was reportedly operating the drone from neighboring Lafayette Park.

Due to the incident, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and the area around it were placed on lockdown, however, that has since been lifted.

President Barack Obama was not in the White House at the time as he is at Camp David.

This is not the first incident in which someone has been accused of flying a drone over the White House fence. Several months ago, a man apparently lost control of a quadcopter drone and unintentionally landed on the White House lawn.

And, as previously noted, just last month, security concerns were raised when a Florida man in a gyrocopter was actually able to land his aircraft on the lawn of the nearby U.S. Capitol building.
