The World’s Ugliest Dog competition was held in California again this year and this time, the winner is a deformed pit bull mix named Quasimodo.

NBC Bay Area reported the dog, who is a 10-year-old pitbull-Dutch shepard mix, is from Florida and has a hunchback due to birth defects in the spinal region.

A veterinarian located in Loxahatchee, Florida adopted Quasi Modo, who had been abandoned by previous owners. Quasi Modo has been mistaken for both a Tasmanian devil and a hyena, but his owner described his personality as being bubbly despite his hardships.

The Petaluma contest in California has been going on for 27 years. Dogs in the competition receive scores based on natural ugliness, unusual attributes, and personality.

Last year’s contest winner was a dog named Peanut. The dog, who is from North Carolina suffered from severe burns as a puppy and his owner Holly Chandler hoped the win would spark attention on the issue of animal abuse.
