Four tourists have been arrested in Malaysia after they were accused of taking nude photos atop Mount Kinabalu last month.

The New York Times reported that the four westerners being held are two Canadian siblings, one British woman and a Dutch man who are all between the ages of 22 and 24. They are each being investigated on charges of public obscenity. Their lawyer, Ronny Cham, said the group could face up to three months in prison if convicted.

The Telegraph noted that the tourists were traveling with six others who are also believed to have disrobed and taken photos. The act is part of an Internet trend in which people take pictures of themselves naked while at famous landmarks.

"We detained all four of them on Tuesday... and yes we are still searching for the other six tourists, and we will catch them," the police chief said.

Mount Kinabalu is considered sacred by many locals who believe that the tourists’ alleged actions were responsible for an earthquake that hit the country last week and killed around a dozen people.

Those apprehended will be held until Saturday.
