With every passing day new details emerge about the two convicted killers who broke out of a New York prison, but they have still managed to evade police.

Authorities have warned the public that David Sweat and Richard Matt are dangerous and as Reuters noted, on Wednesday, police said they believe that the two men could even be armed.

The escapees are thought to have entered a cabin in the Adirondack Mountains, east of Clinton Correctional Facility they broke out of.

"Just about every cabin or outbuilding in the North Country has one or more shotguns or weapons," said Major Charles Guess of the New York State Police. "They put an inordinate amount of weapons and ammunition and other tools in these shared seasonal hunting camps and cabins."

Authorities said the men may have very well armed themselves if they came across one of those cabins.

As previously reported, Matt, 48, and Sweat, 35, escaped the prison earlier this month and are thought to have had the help of Joyce Mitchell, who was an industrial training supervisor at the facility’s tailor shop.

Mitchell allegedly snuck tools the inmates used in their escape inside hamburger meat. She is also accused of having sex with one or both the men.
