Now that Japanese customers are bored with black burgers, Burger King in Japan must have decided to start turning coloring their burgers based on the colors of the rainbow. They’ve started with a red chicken burger, which was just unveiled this week.
As the Wall Street Journal points out, the Aka (“Red”) Samurai Chicken Burger will be available starting July 3. The chicken patty is served on a red bun with red cheese, red tomato and red hot sauce made with miso and hot pepper.
You can get the Aka Samurai Chicken sandwich for ¥540 ($4.40), or get it with a beef patty instead for ¥690.
So how does the cheese and bun get so bright red? Burger King Japan says that they added tomato powder to give the bun and cheese a unique look.
The chain is also improving its now-famous black Kuro Shogun burger, which was unveiled in September. The 2015 version of the burger will include slices of fried eggplant between your beef, black cheese and black bun and will be available on Aug. 21.
