In addition to becoming a pretty respectable young actor, Channing Tatum is quite candid as far as celebrities go, and that includes talking some smack about his past filmography. During a recent interview with Howard Stern to promote Magic Mike XXL, he revealed bluntly his true feelings on his action blockbuster starring vehicle, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and that he "fucking hate(s) that movie."

The confession was found via The Wrap. He apparently was "pushed into doing that movie" following the success of Coach Carter, from which he received a three-picture deal, and although Tatum "loves" the property of G.I. Joe, he really wanted to play Snake Eyes. They, of course, said no to that, and since the script "wasn't any good" and he "didn't want to do something that he was a fan of since he was a kid" or something he thought was bad, let alone be the Duke himself, G.I. Joe, he tried to get out of it.

But the actor wasn't given much choice on the matter, it seems, as the studio threatened to sue the actor if he backed out on their deal. And that's how he ended up frontlining the film. Tatum also said he was "a little" surprised by the summer movie earning over $300 million at the box office, although his phone wasn't exactly ringing off the hook just yet. He was getting more action-heavy features, and while he doesn't think those are bad, he wanted "to change it up," as most artist like to do.

He also wasn't getting the calls from the people he wanted, like the Coen brothers — whom he admits weren't necessarily giving him a part based on his performance as the Duke. But his seemed to go to his advantage, it would seem, as they would later have him star in their latest, Hail, Caesar!. He also, to be a little kind, did consider himself "super lucky and blessed to have been given that film" in the first place.

As the discussion continued, Tatum's was also asked about his involvement in a new Ghostbusters movie. He admits "that thing's gotten messy," on account of all the work Sony's trying to do with a Ghostbusters universe, so he gave a blunt "I don't know" to whether-or-not he's doing that spin-off. He'd "love to the movie," he confesses, but there are also "a lot of people in the pool" at the moment. All in all, they are in a "gestation period" on the project. Meaning that, they need to wait to see how well that lady Ghostbusters movie does next year before they can see if they're moving full speed ahead on another new re-imagining.

Last we heard on that project back in March, Tatum would star and produce in the new comedy directed by the Russo brothers. But with those two also calling the shots on Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War: Part 1 and 2, they may be too tied-up to give their full attentions to that project.

Whether the new Ghostbusters movie is in his cards, the actor has more than a few other films to keep him busy. In addition to promoting Magic Mike XXL's July 1 release, he's slated to star in a Gambit movie, directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and 23 Jump Street, in addition to co-directing Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock with Reid Carolin.
