A CNN anchor is under fire after calling the actions of a Dallas gunman “courageous” in response to a shooting on a police station.
Mediaite reported that Fredricka Whitfield was talking to Phillip Holloway, a legal analyst for CNN, when she said “It was very courageous and brave, if not crazy as well, to open fire on the police headquarters, and now you have this scene, this standoff. So you believe these are the hallmarks of more than one person’s involvement.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the shooting occurred when a driver opened fire on a police department in Dallas after driving up in an armored van. A police sniper shot and killed the suspect.
In response, Holloway felt the police acted in an “excellent” manner and brought up the fact that only the suspect was hurt and no one else.
The Washington Times reported a standoff was held for hours during the Saturday shooting.
WSBTV Atlanta reported that comments have already poured out on Twitter from police associations and unions, including the Fort Worth Police Officers Association who demanded that both Whitfield and CNN needed to “apologize immediately.”
The gunman was reportedly identified as James Boulware.
