Michael Myers will be returning to Haddonfield once again in a brand new Halloween reboot just announced from Dimension Films.

According to Bloody Disgusting, the new film will be titled Halloween Returns, and it will be completely unrelated to the most recent two Rob Zombie films.

It seems like this new movie will actually be in line with the original Halloween franchise in terms of continuity. In Returns, audiences will follow one of Myers' original victims who is now grown up and 18 years old. Michael Myers will be on death row but will quickly escape to wreak havoc once again.

The new film will be written by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, known for writing several of the later Saw sequels as well as The Collector. It will be directed by Marcus Dunstan, who also directed the two Collector movies.

The initial run of Halloween consisted of eight films, the last being Halloween: Resurrection. In 2007, Rob Zombie rebooted the franchise, and his reboot also had a sequel in 2007. That sequel grossed $39 million, down considerably from the previous movie's $80 million, so that explains the studio's desire to retool the franchise.

The movie is being described as a "recalibration," and so it's sounding like it will completely ignore the events of the most recent two reboot films, but will acknowledge the events of the original series.
