Attention moviegoers: there could be a Princess Diaries 3!

Walt Disney Pictures is reportedly moving forward with another film in the movie franchise. This exciting news was first reported by The Tracking Board
and began trending on social media causing an uproar of excitement.

While the plot has yet to be revealed, there has been speculation on whether or not the film’s star Anne Hathaway will return to play Mia Thermopolis.

Sources revealed that if Hathaway did not return, it might be “with an intention to launch a reboot of the franchise.”

The original Princess Diaries film premiered in 2001 and was directed by renowned director Garry Marshall. Disney then released a sequel to the popular teen comedy titled Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement in 2004. Both films were massively successful and featured Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews.

Andrews may have hinted at a possible return during an interview with Access Hollywood in 2012, notes The Huffington Post. When asked about the possibility of a third film, Andrews said, “I would never say no because Disney’s so wonderfully clever and inventive,” she explained. “But I would think they’ll stay with just the two because of Annie.”

Reps from Disney or Hathaway have yet to confirm this news.
