The Rock is about to join in on some glorious monster action in a new movie based on Rampage.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dwayne Johnson has been cast in Rampage, a new film based on the hit Midway arcade game about giant monsters.
The movie will be produced by Beau Flynn, who also produced Johnson's latest blockbuster San Andreas. It will be written by Ryan Engle, known for his work on the Liam Neeson film Non-Stop.
Rampage was a pretty interesting game in that it let players take control of the monsters, going around the city, destroying buildings, and causing as much damage as possible. Presumably, the movie would be a typical giant monster blockbuster featuring the same antagonists.
The game has had a number of sequels including Rampage: World Tour Rampage 2: Universal Tour, and most recently Rampage: Total Destruction on the Wii.
Johnson has proven himself to be a bankable star for New Line recently, as San Andreas made the studio $415 million worldwide. New Line hopes to repeat that success with Rampage, while also capitalizing on the hype for giant monster movies sparked by the most recent Godzilla.
