The new Ghostbusters reboot hits theaters next year, and apparently Emma Stone turned down a role in the film.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, the actress said that the studio was interested in her for the reboot, but that she felt it wasn't the right time for her to get into a major franchise again.

"The script was really funny,” she said. “It just didn’t feel like the right time for me. A franchise is a big commitment—it’s a whole thing. I think maybe I need a minute before I dive back into that water.”

She went on to say that she'd love to play a villain in something, though not necessarily a Ghostbusters movie.

After committing to the role of Gwen Stacy in the Amazing Spider-Man movies, it makes sense that she now wants to step away from these big franchises for a bit. When Sony sold Spider-Man to Marvel, that released her and Andrew Garfield from their commitments to the series, and now she's pursuing some smaller roles, such as in the new Woody Allen film Irrational Man.

As we previously reported, the new Ghostbusters film will be directed by Paul Feig and will star a bunch of talented female comedians including Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. It will hit theaters in July 2016.
